A photographer doesn't claim it. They capture moments, angles, shapes, feelings, life, etc in the same way that any other type of artist does, He has claim to the image, the photograph itself, the way it was taken, the lighting because they have orchestrated it but now the person in the image. The way we grow and change, it's beautiful and yes the body is a learning tool, I agree with you there, but I believe that it is also a natural form or art, or why would so many want to capture it's beauty?
There are many artists that stick to a particular style and you can call that selling out but if it's what you are good at, a lot of people will stick with that.
And yes, you're right, art, to me as well at least, is about conveying a message and exploring things. But maybe it's just that you don't like the messages portrayed in his gallery, maybe he's exploring what is socially acceptable?
My main point was that if you don't like something, you are perfectly entitled to your opinion, but there's no need for outright rude comments (I'm not refering to your own comment). And if there was an issue with any of the work in his gallery dA admin would take it down.
Art is about many different things, that are different to all of us. You can't pin-point art to anything specific because it is everything.
